CASES OF THE “PEOPLE’S TRIBUNAL” PRELIMINARILY REVIEWED IN 2023 AND TO BE HEARD ON MERITS IN 2024

The People’s Tribunal is a public committee of representatives of civil society in Ukraine—members of the Central Council—that operates according to the Statute and Regulations of the People’s Tribunal. In 2023, it conducted preliminary hearings on the following cases and will investigate crimes committed against the independent Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people. Hearings on these cases will take place from March 12 to October 22, 2024, on the platform of the NGO “Center for Journalistic Investigations on Combating Raiding and Corruption in State and Law Enforcement Agencies,” in cooperation with and under the editorial task of the Ukrainian language TV company “Stolytsia”, publicly at the press center of “Stolytsia.”

Here are the cases:

  1. Case No. 007/7-23 from July 30 – Investigation by the Public Committee into the use of funds received from the EU, UK, and USA as aid to the state of Ukraine from 2014 to the present. Investigators: Journalists Valentyna Elas and Michael Wilson. Hearing on the merits scheduled for July 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
  2. Case No. 047/1-23 from August 9 – “Russia’s War Crimes on Ukrainian Children.” Reporter: Investigative journalist Mykola Linnik. Hearing on the merits scheduled for October 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM.
  3. Case No. 055/2/23-T from September 11 – Committee on “Lifers without Torture” (Ukraine). Reporters: Anatolii Voitko, Editor-in-Chief of the “Herald of the Underprivileged,” and Valentyna Elas, Editor-in-Chief of “Stolytsia Weekly.” Hearing on the merits scheduled for September 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
  4. Case No. 09/4/23 from October 30 – “Illegal Sale of Land and Natural Resources.” Preliminary hearing. Reporters: Investigative journalists Anatolii Frolov, S.M. Kuznetsov, Valentyna Elas, and V.I. Hudyma. Hearing on the merits scheduled for September 17, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
  5. Case No. 7/11-23 from November 7 – “Payment of Debt Obligations to Oschadbank Depositors.” Chief Reporter: Investigative journalist Roman Konizhai. Hearing on the merits scheduled for July 16, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
  6. Case No. 3/33-23 from November 6 – “Illegal Activity of Political Parties in Ukraine.” Reporter: Investigative journalist Valentyna Elas. Hearing on the merits scheduled for July 25, 2024, at 5:00 PM.
  7. Case No. 8/12-23 from December 8 – “Religious Organizations and the Interference of Petro Poroshenko as President of Ukraine in Their Activities.” Reporter: Investigative journalist Valentyna Elas. Hearing on the merits scheduled for November 6, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
  8. Case No. 19/12-23 from December 19 – “Martial Law, the State of War, and Mobilization.” Reporters: Investigative journalists Valentyna Elas and Serhii Kuznetsov. Hearing on the merits scheduled for November 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
  9. Case No. 21/12-23 from December 21 – “Investigation of the Activities of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities and State Procurement.” Reporters: Investigative journalists Serhii Sakolash and Mykola Kyrychenko. Hearing on the merits scheduled for June 6, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
  10. Case No. 22/12-23 from December 22 – “Municipal Reform.” Chief Reporter: Professor, Doctor of Law, Yaroslav Zhuravel. Hearing on the merits scheduled for June 27, 2024, at 5:00 PM.
  11. Case No. 11/12-23 from December 27 – “Dual Citizenship of Members of the Verkhovna Rada.” Reporter: Investigative journalist Ivan Kurychka. Hearing on the merits scheduled for August 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
  12. Case No. 30/06-23 from June 30 – “The Biden Money Laundering Case.” Investigators: Journalist Michael Wilson (USA), journalist Denjin Doroshenko (Australia), and Valentyna Elas. Hearing on the merits scheduled for October 22, 2024, at 12:00 PM.

Additional Information: All public hearings on People’s Tribunal cases will take place publicly in cooperation with the “Stolytsia” TV channel and under the legal support of the Elas and Advocates Law Firm. For all 12 cases, 12 jurors were selected by lot from members of non-profit institutions of Ukrainian civil society.

The People’s Tribunal was established and operates within the framework of the NGO “Center for Journalistic Investigations on Combating Raiding and Corruption in State and Law Enforcement Agencies.” During the investigation of these cases, relevant expert specialists will be involved, with additional notifications provided for each case of such involvement.
